In support of the forthcoming book Fly Fishing Wyoming's Cloud Peak Wilderness, this is the first part of a series that will introduce you to the multitude of trout you can chase in the Cloud Peak.
Yellowstone cutthroat trout
Native to the Bighorn Mountains, Yellowstone cutthroat trout are much rarer in the range than Eastern brook trout. However, when you discover the native you're in for a treat as they are often some of the largest fish to be found.
As is often the case in high mountain waters brook trout are the most common species you will encounter in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. You can find them both in lakes and in streams, and can be pursued as part of an easy day's fishing or a multi-day trek into the wilderness.
Stay tuned for the next two parts in this series.
